Building Balance

Project management might sound like something reserved for corporate offices or construction sites, but the truth is, it plays a huge role in everyday life. I believe managing my workflow isn’t about colored spreadsheets; it is more about making sure I can keep up with school, practice, and life without feeling like I’m drowning in deadlines.

The system I’ve developed starts with prioritizing due dates. I use an app where I can put in assignments and see what’s coming up next. It may not sound innovative but having a clear picture of what’s due and when has been pivotal. It prevents me from missing assignments, but more importantly, it helps me finish tasks early, which means less stress and more time to focus on other parts of my life.

I’ve also realized project management isn’t just for academics. By planning my workdays usually on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, I leave space for myself on the other days. That structure means I’m not constantly buried in homework and can actually do things I enjoy, like cooking, hanging out with friends, or just keeping up with household chores. It’s like creating little pockets of balance throughout my week.

Being an athlete adds another layer on top of this. My schedule is already shaped by practices, workouts, and meetings. If I don’t take the time to plan around those intentionally, I’d never find time for myself or a social life. It’s easy to feel like your whole life is dictated by obligations, but when you carve out space deliberately, you take some control back.

What I’ve learned is that project management is really about knowing your priorities. If you don’t figure out what matters most, whether that’s school, relationships, or passions, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and lose sight of why you’re doing any of it in the first place. For me, staying on a schedule keeps me productive, but it also keeps me happier. I don’t feel like I’m constantly behind or rushing from one thing to the next.

At the end of the day, managing my workflow isn’t just about checking boxes off a to-do list; it’s about creating balance, protecting my energy, and making sure the things that matter most don’t get lost.
